Seeds in the waiting: what winter teaches us about faith!
There’s something sacred about a seed.Small. Unassuming. Easily overlooked.Yet inside that tiny shell holds the promise of life, beauty, and abundance.
Here on the farm, we scatter seeds into the soil knowing full well what comes next—waiting. The ground grows quiet. The air turns cold. Winter settles in, and it can feel as though nothing is happening at all.But beneath the surface… everything is.
The Hidden Work of Winter
When a seed is planted, it doesn’t immediately bloom. It doesn’t push through the soil the next day demanding to be seen. Instead, it goes into the ground and, in a sense, disappears.Dormant.Covered.Hidden from view.
And if we didn’t understand the process, we might assume it’s gone. Lost. Forgotten. But the truth is—God is working in the unseen.
Roots begin to form. The outer shell softens. Life begins to stir quietly in the darkness. The seed is being prepared for what it was created to become.Isn’t that just like our spiritual walk?
When It Feels Like Nothing Is Growing
There are seasons in life where we feel buried.Prayers seem unanswered. Progress feels stalled. Dreams we once felt certain about now seem distant or even impossible. We may wonder:
“God, where are You in this?”
“Why does it feel like nothing is happening?”But just like the seed in winter, what we don’t see doesn’t mean nothing is happening. It means something deeper is taking place.
God often does His greatest work underground—within our hearts, our faith, our character.
Then Comes the Rain… and the Bloom
And then, one day, something shifts. The temperature warms. The rain begins to fall. The same ground that looked lifeless suddenly becomes the place where life breaks through.A sprout appears. Then growth.Then—beauty. Flowers bloom where there once was only dirt.
What looked like a long, silent season was actually preparation for a moment of breakthrough.
Trusting the Season You’re In
Every seed has a season. And so do we.
There are planting seasons.
There are waiting seasons.
There are growing seasons.
And there are blooming seasons. Each one is necessary.
If you’re in a season that feels like winter—quiet, slow, uncertain—take heart. God has not forgotten you. You are not stuck. You are not unseen. You are planted.
And what God plants, He is faithful to grow.
A Reminder from the Farm
Out here at Thru God’s Grace Farm, we are constantly reminded:You can’t rush a seed.
You can’t force a bloom.
But you can trust the One who designed the process.
So stay rooted.
Stay faithful.
Stay expectant. Because spring always comes.
And when it does… what God has been growing in you will bloom beautifully in His perfect time.
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1
